I got this CS poll Axe on clearance a while ago, and did not want it mounted to the 6' pole yet. I Bought a Pick handle and started whittling. I was not aware of how much material I was going to have to whittle with no wood working tools or any power tools. Needless to say, I had very sore thumbs and it took many hours of whittling. I finally got the pic of it. The CS Rifleman hawk is for perspective.

next with the hawk, the handle is 19 inches on the hawk

One thing is for sure, it is fun to bash pumpkins with. All the pumpkins I carved for halloween met a bad end. :)

I have one of these on order.

Question: Any reason why you guys arent going with the stock Ash handle?
I do know that I plan to cut mine down a bit.

How durable is the mounting design? Think it will hold up to practical bashing?

I used the the ash pole it came with but cut it down to 4'. The pole did have a twist in it but I was able to plane it out. The mounting is very robust. At least on mine the last 2" of the socket (top section where axe and hammer are) has a slightly smaller ID then the lower section (with two mounting holes) that has been added on. Plane the handle to fit the lower section then drive the handle on and drill and install screws. I ended up with a very tight fit.

I still have to plane the handle a little, stain it and wrap it but at 4' the weight is ~5lbs.

Makes short work of 2x4s

The only reason I did not use the factory handle on mine was I was reluctant to cut such a nice piece of ash in half. It was such a pretty, nice straight piece. I kept it so If I want to I can mount the axe on the longer pole when I want.

The hickory pic handle was cheaper than cutting that long of a pole in half. Plus that gave me an excuse to bust my thumbs whittling it down (which did get old after a while).

The mounting is very robust, and has no movement at all. I have bashed some pumpkins. and buried the blade in a splitting round so that I was worried I was going to break the handle prying it out. no movement in the mount though.

Actually the poll makes a crazy good weapon. Bashing stuff with it really does damage. Hit any body part with it, and it will break bones and squash muscle into pulp.

I actually bought the Poll axe to cut off the poll and make it into a great axe. After getting it I decided not to the poll balances it out and really does a number on things. :D:D

I looked at shovel handles, I was not sure they were thick enough to fill the socket.

I've found ones that do fit.

Now then, if only cold steel would present an even larger axe for the 2008 new catalog. A cs danish axe? :) And bring back the mace.

I am planning on throwing mine. I need to get a taller target for that. I will have to mount my round on a stand for that.

I can't believe there are any left. I am super pissed I missed the Swiss Halberd closeout.

The halberd close-out was sold-out within days of the sale, and that was ten months ago.

Therionarms now has a halberd head in stock for $50, but no telling yet if it's 'real' (the details are pending).

I don't remember what the shipping costs were, but I remember it was not as much as I expected it to be. I think less than 10$ but I could be wrong. Hell, I just spent 10 to ship some small micarta scale, and they aren't 6' long and weigh 6 lbs.
