What would it be worth to you if Uncle Bill were to give in, and try to produce a new line of khukuries that were closer to the traditional 19th-early 20th century knives?

Knives that: where thinner, lighter, had all steel mountings, convexed edge grinds, and better sturdier sheaths (say no to brass).

Either respond to the poll (gold members), or let us know which you would have chosen (others).

I would probably pay 50% more, as long as the new line didn't replace the old completely. I think it would be very neat to have some more traditional offerings, but when I really want to move some wood, I like having the mass behind the blade. Also, more traditional would probably mean smaller handles, and that's great for history's sake, but not on something super sharp that I'm going to be swinging.

I would buy some traditional HI khuks, but I'm also glad I have the brutes for working. Keep in mind that lighter blades could also (conceivably) not be covered by the warranty. The kobras and retis aren't, and their blades tend to run in the 1/4" range.

So as long as it's not a complete product shift, I'd be interested. :)

As a matter of principle, I would be willing to pay double. I feel the current line is underpriced as well. In reality I don't have that kind of money. Someday I will though (3-4 years), and when I do have it I will be spending a lot of it on HI, so my vote is not purely hypothetical.

Dunno. Depends on blade length and shape. Just like the others, I go by how things look. There are a few models I'd probably never get because I figure they don't look pleasing to the eye.

Living in a foreign country the exchange rate and extra shipping costs cause me much pain. :(

I'd pay extra bux for convex ones though.

Make me an offer I can't refuse. :)

As long as there would still be Yangdu's Blem Box....... I'm there. Even the regular line is too rich for my blood at full price.

50% of the price is the premium I'd pay for premium knives. Somewhere in the $150 - $175 range, depending on options, is reasonable for those kinds of khuks, as long as the kamis stick to specs and do not deviate - with the exception of making the grip longer for our bigger hands. The main thing is to let the kamis know our concerns and what we expect when we plunk down that much money.

These premium khuks, if they do come to be offered, should not replace the regular line and certainly shouldn't be pounded out en masse like the regular stuff. Perhaps a special order of some sort, directed to the smiths who know how to make them best.
