As we near the end of March, it is time to select a traditional knife to carry in April. The Porch was very helpful last month to select my March traditional knife, so I would like to try another poll to select a traditional knife to carry for April. I do typically carry additional knives each day to suit what tasks the day may bring, so this will not be the only knife in my pocket.

This poll includes 8 options, of which you can select 4 to go to the Final Four. I’ll do a final poll next week with the highest ranking 4 knives, and the winner will be carried for the month of April.

Here are the options:

Single blade-

Multiple blade-

And some individual pics:

GEC 88 modded to a single lambsfoot.

And finally, the GEC 2019 forum knife.

Please select up to 4 knives, and include any reasoning behind your choices.

Have a great weekend!

If I'm gonna carry the same knife all month, I'd definitely prefer the versatility of a multi-blade knife. So I just voted a "straight ticket" for the Multiblade Party. (If the GEC 88 had been "original equipment" with lambsfoot/clip blade combo, I'd have chosen that instead of the Case damascus whittler just because I like the sowbelly frame and am quite fond of a lambsfoot blade.)

First Choice: 530411 Cuban.
Runner-up: GEC Cattleman.
Paired with GEC Remington Grand Daddy Barlow. ( unless you want fancy ... in-which case pair with the Case Damascus Whittler.)

No reason not to tote two. 😁👍

Exactly the sound reasoning I would expect from you, and certainly worthy of consideration. I will clarify that while the poll winner will be a constant companion for April, I do typically carry at least one other knife to supplement the traditional including a SAK, fixed blade, modern folder, or combo of the above. So while a multi blade knife might eliminate the need for some, I wouldn’t be limited by a single blade either.

Cattle knife, poll closed…🐮🐄

I will admit, I voted for this one as 1 of my 4. To 5K Qs 5K Qs point above, it handles a lot of EDC tasks by itself.

I went Cuban, Cattle, Remington, 2019 BF.

My only selection criteria was totally selfish. These are the knives (in order) I would enjoy seeing you photograph in a daily basis for the next month 😃.

Case single blade trapper

Because it's cool to be different and I think it's cool to figure out how to make a tool work for your needs instead of a tool you think might cover all your needs

Great list and as good a reason as any.

There is a lot to be said about making a tool work for any needs that may arise. I carried an opinel exclusively for almost a year, and never really "needed" anything else for daily cutting tasks. While I like the variety and collecting aspect of knives, ultimately they are a tool and any one of these would be suitable for a lifetime of carry use.

That Damascus whittler is to die for, Carry it!

I am such a sucker for raindrop Damascus, never seen that model before.

It is a 5383 damascus whittler. Very comparable in size to the recent 59 pattern by GEC last fall, but obviously completely different blade shapes. Both are splitback whittlers. I took a couple comparison pics last year:
