Stonewashed on stainless would be my first choice for most blades ... I do like a nice satin finish on some even if it shows wear much easier.

But I really like a naturally worn and/or patina on a carbon steel blade probably most of all. It's kind of like it's telling a story, reminding me of all the good it's given me. With it starting as a stonewashed finish 95% of the time.

I just received a knife I ordered from Robert Erickson that is W2 with a hamon and I really like it also.

I picked DLC. Powder coated blades seem so half assed. Like they are covering grind/machine mistakes.
:) DLC all day long , especially over a non-stainless . Very durable if done right .

Black and slippery smooth , pores can help hold anti-corrosives .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I like the look of a nicely done satin, it makes the knife feel finished to me.

Although I do enjoy a variety of finishes! Really depends on the asthenic of the knife.

favorite --- stonewash
least --- bead blast

EDIT: I've seen a finish called "war worn" on a protech 3.2, looks marvelous, guy even said it adds to the RC hardness

 IMO "Blood and Gore " is more a failure of maintenance / hygiene than an actual finish on steel .

Maybe "Natural Patina " might have been a better alternative for the poll . :p

I like satin, stonewashed, and whatever it is Heretic used on my Manticore E. I think they call it battleworn.

I prefer a not highly polished fingerprint and smudge magnet.
Satin, Stonewashed, Coated, a Patina, whatever.

I voted mirror, cause I do really like them best visually, if its a steel that takes a polish.

it don't matter on finish. own them all use them all.

I voted "other" cause my favorite is that reflective, polished stonewash finish that's common on Taichung Spyderco knives and Maxamet models from Spyderco's Golden factory.

Stonewash for me, especially the one done by CRK
it hides scratches pretty well

i also like Black DLC ... just because it pleases my « ninja-side » ;)

Brushed satin, because it is a more user friendly finish. It is less prone to scratches and blemishes than most other blade finishes.

Mirror is my favorite.

It “feels” like it cuts better, which is anecdotal but relevant to my preference.
