I see a lot of people that want to turn the Rat 6 into a large RMD (custom w/o a top guard).

So what say you regarding the Rat 6? Yay or nay to the top guard?

FYI:

I tried to create an actual poll but couldn't find the following section described by the FAQ page:

To create a poll when you post a new thread, simply click the 'Yes! post a poll' checkbox at the bottom of the page, and set the number of possible responses you want to include.

And yes I did a cntrl-f search on "yes" and "poll". Do I need gold membership or something?

EDIT: Yes I do.

With :)

I would pick an RMDx over RMD any day, R6 is darn near the M6 but with a top guard... That's all kinds of win as far as I'm concerned :D

Prefer no top guard. I expect it will be more comfortable choking up.....using my ESEE 6 as point of reference since I don't have mine yet. And I have some sheath ideas for it and not having the top guard opens up some more design options.

I like them either way personally. Its such a versatile knife that there are many advantages to both options. Aesthetically speaking, I'm more in favor of the Rodent 6 with the top guard ground off.

If it were an option I would have bought the NO upper guard. Although on this knife it does not appear to be that obtrusive an in fact might even aid some in certain task. The TG crossguard is to big for my taste but this R6 looks to be ok.

They had some custom rodent 6's at knob without the guard so they do exist. When I first saw them I asked if they were giant rmds

Had the Rodent 6, and didn't care for the top gaurd, so gave it to a young Marine that seemed to love it.
If I could score one without the top gaurd, I would probably jump on it. Yea I know I could just grind it off, and have done it before, But If you ever want to resell, it can be hard to move.

I find the top guard to be barley noticable on the rodent 6, feel wise. I like it.

Noob question but why remove the top guard on the R6?
What is the advantages and disadvantages to having this guard on knives?

The top guard didn't bother me that much. It's all nicely rounded and not big enough to get in the way.
That said, I went wit a custom shop one, without the top guard and drop point blade. In this configuration it just fits better my preference for a field knife.

I like knives with top guards, they've always looked good to me. The guards on the R6 and TGLB don't bother me when choking up. I'd like to get an R6 without a top guard also though. Can't lose either way, it's a great knife!

I got one in the shop a while ago without the top and I thought it was a great "mod" (?), I know pics or it didn't happen:

Fits into a specops with or without the top guard. Mine has it and I love the blade. I also like the ones pictured without, so I guess I don't have much of an opinion either way. Purely aesthetic.
