I have both an ABA and an SHBA. The SHBA was a gift, and the satin/snake ABA was something I had to work hard for. Honestly, in terms of feel, the SHBA is the one for me. While I like them both a lot, there is just something about the SHBA that
makes it feel almost perfect for me. The grip is fantastic, and the knife is short and stocky, but feels like it could even chop very well. The ABA feels like a great utility knife, while the SHBA feels like a real combat knife in the hands.
Truthfully, I think ya need to own 'em both. Sorry.

I'd have to honestly say that I can't choose one over the other. The BAIII/ABA/SHSJ handle is very comfortable. The SHBA is equally comfortable. If you look at the rear talon hole on the SHBA, you'll notice it slopes away from your pinky and allows you to change grip on it easily and without thought. It may be the best camp knife I've ever handled with that and the way the front finger guard is positioned. It just melts into your hand like butter. The blade shape is a good length and stout and perfect for a multitude of chores.
I'd buy both if you can.
Top two knives share the same handle shape and slabs as the BAIII. I wish the SHSH and SHBM both shared the SHBA handle.

I think I'm of this mind. Fortunately, I should be able to review a special SHBA soon ... that may further crystallize my thinking.

My opinion there is no comparison at all. The SHBA is hands down far superior to the BA3. I first owned several BA3s and then i scored my first SHBA in INFI.That started the quest for more SHBAs . The SHBA is a Grail knife the BA3 is not. What puzzles me is how anyone could pay the incredible inflated cost for a Ba3. I know longer own a BA3 and never will again

The BATACLE was my first Busse. It is no longer a part of my collection. The ABA and SHBA, however, will NOT leave.
They are two different knives, however. The SHBA looks tougher and more heavy-duty, while the ABA feels more like a carry/woodsman knife. Again, though...you need to grab them both.
