I understand that older versions of polypropylene long-underwear had a tendancy to absorb oil from the skin and over time this oil would turn rancid leaving the underwear with a really bad odour. Newer versions of this material are now treated so that this doesn't happen.

I just received some military 'expedition weight' polypro off of Ebay. Turns out this stuff was manufactured in 1999. Does anyone know if the material was treated by this time to prevent odours from developing?

Sorry to disappoint you BO...haha...but, in my experience, every piece of polypro clothing that I have owned and currently own, develops a nasty smell.

I wash it, put it on a clean and antiperspirant covered body and within two hours it smells as bad as it did when I washed it after the last trip.

Just one of those things I guess....although, I do agree that some manufacturer's claim that their products are bacteria resistant....seems to be bogus claims if you ask me.

Besides, if you smell bad, the bugs don't seem to bother you as much.

I've been buying and using polypro undies since the early-mid 1980s. The first pair I had was indeed "poly-stinkalene". But by about 1988 the problem of "poly-stinkalene" was talked about as a thing of the past, at least amongs outdoor enthusiasts who tend to stick with the higher end brands. Todday there's a lot of polyester as opposed to polyproplylene. I have some of the military and it doesn't stink that I've noticed. I don't think you'ld have a problem with somthing as modern as 1999, but I can't say for sure.
