So, the other day I happened to luck into a cold steel pommel head sword cane at a thrift shop. I don't think they had any idea what it was, I got it for like $3.50 which is amazing. It's in fairly decent shape, some little nicks and scratches. But there are two main problems with it that I would like to find a way to fix. The first is that the top of the pommel (which I've heard some people say is steel and others say is aluminum) is very scratched up. Not deep scratches just lots of little ones making it look "foggy" (like someone ran steel wool over it for a while) instead of the nice mirror finish on the sides of the pommel. The second issue is that the head of the cane is getting a little loose, When I first got it it was kind of stuck on and I had to pull pretty hard to get it out. Now its easier to pull out but its getting TOO easy to pull out to the point where I'm worried it might fall out if I turn it over.
In short: I'm looking for a way to give the top of the pommel the same kind of mirror finish as the sides, and I would welcome any suggestions on how to tighten the "sword" part of the cane so it doesn't come out so easily.
Any help would be much appreciated
