Looking for a poncho for rain protection and for use as a shelter, was looking for reccomendations, on ponchos, and of pics and instructions on how you use yours for shelter

i got like one of the cheapest plastic( i think its a pvc one) ponchos on the market fer a few euro (3 euro or sumthing)

and it works fine as a shelter, here is an example where i filmed it:

and here is a pic of another shelter i made with it:

Poncho. USGI woodland camo Poncho from actiongear.com. The poncho can me used as a tarp, ground cloth, tent, bivy bag, and rain gear.:D

Here is a photo of me under one in Washington State on a Simply Survival Course:

Now, if I could only figure out how to get more than one of these functions out of a poncho at the same time. :D

I've had my GI poncho for years, it makes a great shelter, ground sheet, and decent rain wear. Cheap and tough, I always have it with me, even on dayhikes.

How come, at least for me, is that a poncho is great for everything else but for what it was designed for??? They make great shelters, ground cloths, etc., but if it's raining hard and you're "humpin' it", you always get wet. I don't get it. :D

. . . the inevitable result of hard work while wearing any waterproof (and most water repellant) garments. :o

Water vapor from evaporating sweat condenses on the inside surface of the poncho, which is being cooled by the rain and/or colder air on the outside. If anything, the weakness of the poncho is in serious wind (elastic cord around bottom edge?). Otherwise, while kinda' clumsy, it ventilates better than a rain suit/rain parka/anorak.

As for getting "two," the second might be better without a BIG HOLE in the center. :D

Exactly right on the condensation aspect of poncho's or any raingear for that matter. Hard rain for me means to pull over, light a fire and heat up a cup. I'm in no big hurry.

As for the second not having a hole, yeah, I got a tarp too. :D

It must be nice to have the luxury to just pull over and have a cup of tea...
Well, what if you have to go up and defend Canada from the Evil Communists, and you MUST NOT STOP, even if it is raining...(oh sorry, I forgot...this already happened..:D )
- Just kidding...don't track me down and kill my dog.

 Tea????? No self respecting Kalifornikan goes into the bush without some instant chai tea latte close at hand.:D

Yeah, I agree that there are times when stopping isn't an option, but Canada being overrun with Commies aint one of em.:D
