Pondering a new Becker...

I have my Camillus BK7, but I have opted to keep it as is. I am trying to figure out what new production Becker to purchase when I can scrape up the spare change. Paying rent AND a mortgage has pretty much drained the bank, so knife, gun, and other non-essential purchases are pretty much out for right now. But, I am determined to get a new Becker, and start wailing on it.

I am kinda torn between a BK9 or a BK2. So gimme some feedback guys.....
It will probably be 6-9 months to gather the $$$ so I'll probably flip flop a few times between now and then, but I am really pumped about a new Becker blade to hit the field with, so give opinions, personal commentary, etc.

I own both, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. But I would say the 2 is more useful. Plus it doesn't scare the sheeple like the 9 might! Still can't make a wrong decision whichever one you end up with.

The BK9 is my favorite Becker, but it is still hard for me to suggest it over the BK2, they are both so good. Another thing to consider is that the Tweeners may be released by then, and you may prefer one of them over the 2 or 9.

Depends on the type of camping. How much wood will you need to chop? I've been on so many trip where I didn't cut a single piece of wood. I just gather, drag, or break off what I've needed on some trips. That doesn't always work.
If I have all my gear, tent, sleeping bag, stove, etc.. then I really don't want a big heavy knife, or axe. I'd rather have a med size knife, maybe the BK-2.

If I was going to build a shelter, have fire all night, and depend on what I can burn to stay warm, fed, and alive, well then.. Give me a BK-9, or similar. There might be places that would require a light weight machete and the BK-2. Or, for car camping, why not both?

You'll have to decide which is better for your needs, but you'll love either, if not both eventually.

simplify your life so you can buy more toys :)

Bladite, I am earnestly striving to simplify my life bro. Things, people, and forces outside my direct control have created great difficulty on several levels for me. My loss is far beyond financial, and bummin' here at Bladeforums is a great part of getting back into a good place. DANG, I didn't mean to go all over to that side of town, just sayin' I am truly workin' on it. :)

well, have a fire sale, pack up and get out :) okay, that doesn't work for everyone. sounds like some angst though, so of course, you definitely need to go shopping :) it's the best therapy there is! next to beer. i'd rather have a new knife than a beer :>

guns are pricey. so, sell some ammo :) pack that sutff up and hide it good so you or someone else is not tempted (just forward thinking)...

and good luck :) you probaby want a 2 for the everyday handyness of it. a 9 can wait.

course, in 6-7 months, you can MAYBE buy a Machax, so give THAT a think :)

BK 2's are going for $58 on Amazon with free shipping. You could panhandle outside the bus station for a week and have enough dough to get one, if it came down to that.

I need the 2. I love the 9.
You'll eventually wind up getting both if you're a fan of the Becker line.

Well, you might be able to guess what I'm gonna call out. BK2 Campanion. Everyone really needs this knife. Ok, everyone really needs all of them, but of the lot of BKT lineup, the BK2 is the most well rounded. Its size and shape lend itself to many different tasks, but the thing is it can reach down to the BK11, or up to the BK9. Plus, it looks cool and no threatening. Maybe.

Anyway, whatever your choice, it will be a good one.

Okay I don't have both, but I do have and love the BK2. Do you have a favorite hammer or screwdriver? A sentimental pair of channel locks (I have my grandfathers)? The 2 is like that. I'm enjoying "weathering" it on random tasks around the house, building character. It's less expensive than the 9, and it'll serve you well if you like to use the hell out of your gear.

Yea do ^^this^^...if you have no pride. WTF dude? hows that hope and change doing for ya by the way?

I was making a rude comment to the guy that suggested that you go to a bus station and beg. And my comment about hope and change was a dig at the current administration.

As long as his sign said "Why lie, I need a Becker" or " will work for Becker" I'd not have a problem. Hell I'd kick down some $.

start saving now is a good plan -- by the time you have $$, the drop point tweener will be available and perfect for your needs!
