I am considering selling one of my Busse's in order to purchase a ASH1. To anyone who owns one, are they good all rounder's??? are they good at several things but not great at any one thing?

How about you keep your other Busse's and sell something else to get the ASH?;)

it would help to know what other busses you own, but:

i think the batac is a better all arounder. the ash is fantastic, but heavy. if i were to carry one all day on a hike, i would go with the batac. blade length is almost the same.

for a camp knife, the ash is better, imo. better chopper, wider blade makes it better for food prep. but the added thickness might hinder some cutting tasks.

I love the ASH. It IS a beast but the weight isn't a big deal to me. Especially since I own an FFBM. ;) But I'd say it is a good all-arounder for me. Like the NO-E was.

I love my ASH as an all a rounder. I dont have a Batac yet but so far as thin blades go I can always carry another smaller blade to supplement the ASh's power. Mines pretty darn sharp now so I doubt Id have many problems with finer work should the need arise.Weight isnt a problem for me either. I got two. One I put right into my BOB, the other I use.
As for selling something I cant say. Im a buyer. If I dont want something I usually dont buy it. Once I have something I rarely want to part with it again. I started to sell a knife once but a day or so later I changed my mind and kept it. Glad I did.Same thing with trades. I never feel I have enough. Might regret it later.

I can't imagine a CG ASH 1 being a perfect all arounder with the thickness it has but that is just my opinion and as you know opinions vary greatly. The CG BATAC is close to the all arounder (so far) for me. The LE is too thick for my use. I had a snake standard/black and a low number LE and sold them both but ended up with a CG for a user. It took a few buys/sells to get the one for me.
If I could not afford to keep both but had a credit card, I would probably buy the ASH and see if it was the one. When it arrives, compare your herd and sell what you no longer wish to keep in order to pay the bill when it comes in. Don't think that this will not take discipline cause you will probably want to keep all of them! They don't bill you till approx. 10 days before they ship so you should actually have a little time after it arrives to make up your mind before the bill hits. If it is not the one and you are willing to sell it for what you gave, you should have no problem in turning it. Don't worry though, Jerry will tempt you with plenty more if you hang around long enough.
Good luck.

I'm letting 2 old carbon V coldsteels go for my ash-1
a recon tanto and oss
two badly disigned knives I will never use for a perfect knife I will beat the crap out of

I'm going to get the LE. Going to go thin for once. I have the FFBM and the Heavy Heart and a fatty SHSH.

Haven't carried any of these for any length of time, but do EDC a fat SHBA. You ALWAYS know it's there and after 12 or 14 hrs on the belt sorta develop a list to that side. LOL

My thinner Busses are much better slicers and I do more cutting than chopping.

Rob,

I think you need to start thinking about carrying 2 SHBA's, one on each side for balance and to prevent listing to one side.

If I have to choose then it's thin for me.
The ZTSH is about ideal.

I do have 2 and they are the 2 most identical straight handles I have ever seen. Must have come from the same blank and ground by the same person. Got them about 5 years apart.

You would know about all the straights of whatever size having distinct personalitys. Most I could tell apart at a glance.

Carry a Lg Classic Sebbie on the other side, but it's like it's not even there. LOL

I wish I had kept my ZTSH, but I was in a fat mode back then and let the whole set go. Es Stupido, me!

The ASHI should rectify that mistake.
