just finished this billet and had to show it off its 60 layers of that reaper and saw blade mix.it took about eight hours to get it this far i zoomed the scan so i could get a clear shot of the pattern ill post a picture when i get the knife completed let me know what ya think.

I like it, it looks great. How do you get it to look like that? I saw your post about drilling holes, do you drill holes in both steels and just pound them together?
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished knife.

when i got my billet to the number of layers i wanted i drilled holes one quarter the thickness of the billet on each side then fuxed and and forged it flat.
 
Cool Russ! You're kicking butt with this damascus thing. That's a great pattern. Keep up the good work.
 
Rotor, That looks good. Ive made some by pressing dimples into the billet and then surfacing it smooth again but mine seems to wash out in the center of the bar. I call mine acid rain.
 
Rotor,How thick was your billet when you drilled the holes and then how thick of a bar did you end up with when you were done forging it?

it was 1" thick when i drilled my holes and about 3/16 when i finished forging. it ended up 1/8 x1 1/4 x8 this after flat grinding I already have it profiled, but ran out of belts :mad:I put in an order yesterday hopefully by next monday i will be up and runnig again. thank all for the kind words
