I bought a Yojimbo 2 from a local Spyderco dealer yesterday. Wanted one for awhile, but most dealers are always out of stock. Now I have no plans to send this back, as it is purely cosmetic and will not affect it in use. But it seems to me, only my Golden knives have small cosmetic grind issues. I have a FRN Native I bought at the factory that the swage is way off from side to side. My black PM2 has a single washboard ridge from spine to belly where the Spyderco logo is. Now this Yojimbo 2 has multiple washboard polished grind marks running from the Spydie hole to the edge. The pictures below are the best I could get, but you can easily feel the ridges and with a fingernail, you can actually hear it if you hold it close to your ear as you rake across them. And these are on both sides. Now like I said, I am not too worried about it, and have no plans to send it back....and it is almost like a fingerprint, as I know that is my knife just by looking at it. But damn, I could see how this would piss someone off and trigger a return, exchange etc.

And this you can see the waviness in the area.

I've been disappointed by Seki City ones, too. Only the Taichung ones seem to have no cosmetic faults for me so far.

Weird. Shouldn't affect anything but I see what you mean.
But all my Golden's are well...Golden.

I hear ya....but didnt you look at the knife before getting it? I seen you other thread
about your new knife and yiu didnt mention anything about it before.

I don't send things back (or complain) normally but I was close to it after receiving my new Karahawk yesterday. I realize the learning curve is a little steeper grinding this type of blade but this one was over the top. 15 degrees on one side and close to 30 degrees on the other and the 15 degree side looked like it was ground during an earthquake.
Pardon me if Seki was hit with another earthquake recently.
I wouldn't bitch at all if this were the first but it isn't. And with the hawk bill blade I can't put it on the Edge Pro, I had to tough it out for hours on the SharpMaker to get it straight. No reselling this one LNIB. :(

I have little issues with more of my Spydercos, but so minor it is not even worth mentioning. But this is not just a Spyderco issue. I have a composite Leek that I carry now and again. I bought a second for a friend for his birthday because he liked mine. I bought from Amazon and the grind was a joke. Like the guy or girl grinding fell asleep and fell into it while grinding. It was that bad.

I just wish all Spydercos met the QC of their Taiwan knives. My Gayle Bradley and Techno are so perfect they are actually boring/sterile....zero personality. ;)

I am 48 and my vision sucks when I don't have my Dollar Tree readers. Even when I got it home and made the post all looked well. It was when my wife and I were watching a movie when I saw the ridges in the dim light and then felt it. Thing is, I have wanted one for awhile and they are always out of stock....luckily my local shop had one. So, I am fine with it.

Best part is my brother in law just said he wants to send me and my wife to my home town of Golden to move his office computers and phones in the next few weeks......So I am gonna bring this and go to the factory and ask for a brief explanation.

If every knife I bought regardless of maker met those standards (in most cases) I'd be happy. Bored, I can't say, but definitely happy. :)

The worst thing i've seen were crazy uneven bevels from Golden on one of my Para2s. One side was like 10 degrees and the other was 30-40. You could absolutely feel it when you cut too. I reprofiled it on the edge pro and handed off to my cousin.

My only Taichung knife so far is my Southard and it actually has the most uneven grind of all my spydercos. Ever re-profile cts204p on a sharpmaker? Never again! My Yojimbo 2 is flawless on the other hand.
