Poor flipping Mantra 2

After not buying anything so far this year I decided to get back in the game and picked up a Mantra 2 last week when Blade HQ put them on sale. I have been wanting to try M4 and a Spyderco flipper.
I will say this is the first time I've been disappointed with a Spyderco, the blade grind was uneven at the tip and the tip was pretty dull. The flipping action was really stiff out of the box but I figured it would get better so I decided to sharpen it and keep it. Well after some oil and all day sitting around flipping it I'm still really disappointed. You have to push the tab just right to get it to flip and then on closing it feels kind of rough in the pivot. Is there anything I can do to improve the action? I don't feel like I should try to send it back since I already sharpened ( even though it's better than from the factory lol).
Or are my expectations too high for the action? I am comparing to my ZT0450 which is incredibly easy to flip and very smooth.

I'm in the same boat.

I just got my Mantra 2 in because I didn't have anything in my collection with M4 steel and I thought it looked interesting.

Compared to the Dice and Smock I got recently the Mantra feels much less satisfying. It seemed to work in a little bit but it doesn't feel smooth.

Try to loosen the pivot by just a bit, not more than an eighth of a turn.

The flipping action, on my Mantra 2, is horrendous! I figure, that if I decide to carry it, I'll work with it, and or, use centrifugal force, to deploy the blade. But, very disappointing, to say the least!

I'd like to point out, for all those that care, and to those who get my sense of humor, the Mantra 2 does NOT remind me of the ZT0804CF; just in case you were wondering. :D However, it will cut through an apple, or an orange, like a mofo! ;):p

I got one on closeout too. Flipping action out of the box was terrible. Opened it up and and applied oil. There was none before. Now it flips fine. It's still not up to modern standards for bearings but at the closeout price for CPM-M4, it's a pretty good deal. It carries very well. My only complaint is the lockup is quite late.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will try messing with the pivot and taking it apart. I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one that's observed this issue

Yea i just got a closeout Mantra 2 a few weeks ago. Titanium flipper wit M4 was a no brainer and at just over $100 to boot. I even like the unique blade shape. Down side the flip is how to word it? Impotent? Defiantly gotta snap my wrist for full lock up. Should i call Spyderco? Or just loosen the pivot a tad?

Mine needed lubrication. See my post above. You shouldn't have to loosen the pivot to achieve a good action but if you don't mind blade play you could do that.

Flush it out with hot water, blow it dry (compressor or can), lubricate. That's all I've ever needed to do with mine.

Ok but the more i look at it, it seems the problem lies with the frame lock. Thats a lot of pressure against the blade as it is flipped.

Mine started off flipping fairly poorly but I played with it for a few days and it seemed to break in decently

No big deal. I love everything about this knife and when i need it out its out. I actually wear it in my athletic shorts in bed when i sleep. Never know when you will need a knife lol
