I wanted to thin out the edge on my 1111, see if I could get her to bite deeper.
The Sharpmaker obviously would take forever, and I wanted a more precise and consistent angle than what I could get free handing it with water stones.
So, I borrowed a friends Atoma diamond stone, taped it to my homemade grinding jig ( I use for knife making,, slow but you can really get a nice bevel), set the angle using,,, yes,, the level on my iPhone.
Set it to 17 degrees, marked my edge with a sharpie to see the progress,, and slowly started grinding.

You can see in the last pic the original bevel is there creating essentially a micro bevel.

You can see here the original angle on the tip,, which was WAY more obtuse than the rest of the blade. I left the tip and swell(?) untouched for strength.

Now you can see where that same thickness behind the edge is at now, on the reground edge.

And the current thickness behind the edge.

I'm going to give it a micro bevel of about 25 with the Sharpmaker,, and hope I didn't screw this one up!

Cheers!

Thanks! Go on YouTube and check out Aaron Gough. He has a video on how to make the grinding jig. I started watching his videos when getting into knife making. He's answered every email and is a stand up guy.
He's also a member here on BF I believe.

Thanks for sharing this, looks awesome. Would like to do something similar on my 1311. Could use my 1x30, but that's a lot of blade for a 1" belt unless I did a jig. Approx how long did it take? Coarse grit(s)?

Forgot a shot of the whole thing,,
I'll smooth up the bevel wth a finer stone and strop, but I don't think I'll adjust the edge towards the tip.
I think it makes sense to leave it thicker there.. We'll see

That stone I used is an Atoma 80 grit diamond stone,,, it grinds fast.
I went nice and slow and easy,,, it only took maybe 20 minutes .

Thank you. I'm sure it would be nothing for my xc dmt then, I'd just have to make sure the rig could hold it, lol. I also have an xxc TASK stone that might work well to hog off material. Anyway, look forward to hearing how it performs for you, looks like it should do well.

Ok I double checked,, I swore he told me it's an 80 grit but I can't find it on the package...
This is the stone though

Pretty cool. I also never knew the iPhone had a level. Thanks for pointing that out.

That's not an 'If', it's a 'Yes!' Geometry cuts!

I have reprofiled almost all my large Bussekin on the HF 1x30, to a freehand convex. Taking back the thick shoulder definitely helps.

Those look great! Interested to see the difference in performance.
I did as much research as I could about what people thought is an ideal DPS for SR101,,, seems like 17 seemed like a good place to start.
