Has anyone thought of making there own V-Gar with 550 cord?? I know the cord would be too soft by itself, so my idea is to run some fishing line in place of an internal stand of string. Does this sound stupid?? or feasible?? Need some help brainstorming. Thanks.

I to have thought of making something simmalar. you might try going to a auto wrecking yard a getting the cable that opens the gas door on jap cars( toyo, nissian) work great IMO.

Been there and done that! I had James make me a couple of the "loop tubes" that keep the cable from collapsing on your hand, but these are stainless steel, and I ran 550 ParaCord through this and made another weapon, it is a "training version," but it would work as well.

If you wish to put something in the 550 ParaCord shell that is substantial, you may want to try plastic coated steel leader, about the size used for shark fishing or a little bit smaller.

Well I was thinking of keeping it "metal" free. So any steel or aluminum is out of the question. Not really, but I'm looking for something besides metal. I tried it on a two foot piece of 550 cord, with two strands of fishing line in it. It sorta works. I had some problems pulling the line through, but for a trial piece it works okay. Thanks for the info.

well, i took a long loop of paracord; put my keys on it and a 6 oz. brass lock as well. when i don't want to be noticed i let the lock slide down and join the keys. otherwise i can just let the lock slide down the end of the loop and it's ready to swing or snap. i have just enough length that i can do a simple choke, especially if i pull tight against my boney forearm (like triangle choke). won't work though if you don't want metal, although most won't notice the lock if you keep it next to the keys. my excuse is it's for my locker at the Y for swimming laps (better than nothing). i imagine that you could use some of the monofilament for fishing (the shark-catching-size stuff!)- how about looping it through small round hard pvc balls with a hole drilled through their centers? it would be almost a bolo type weapon except a bit shorter. imagine whipping that, even with one hand, around a bad guys neck. if it manages to wrap even once he's gonna react and react fast! and hardly anyone goes to pull something off their throat with only one hand, so...advantage goes to you. as far as metal goes, get one of those thin teethy saws that they use for emergency cutting. my friend from the Airborne had one- he says that the C.O.s watched those things like they were guns! a lot of the guys wanted to take them out with them! well, there are options for everything. oooooh, Ally McBeal's on, gotta go!

I think I'm going to make one of these. The plastic or PVC balls sounds like a great idea.

The trial one I made is okay. I used 40lb fishing line in place of one strand of 550 cord. The stiffness is there, but it doesn't want to coil right. I think when I pulled it through the 40lb line twisted alittle. I might be able to straighten it with some weight on one end of the cord. I don't know. I need to try another piece. Let me know how the plastic works out.

I had an idea on what type of plastic piece to use on my poor mans V-gar. I'm thinking of trying a Excutive Ice Scraper from "Choate Machine & Tool". I'll cut the piece I need out of the handle(Dremel time!!). It should work as the "T" in the end of my cord. Still pondering something to use as the "teardrop" end. Might just put a monkeys fist on the end of the line. Just some more ideas I'm kicking around.

Another thought. I think I'll try some weed eater line for the core of my 550 cord. I was cleaning out my shed and I have some that use to go to my weed eater. Just another idea to try.

Just a thought...

My oldest son has been begging me for his own 'personal' V-Gar system since I got mine a couple of years ago. Hey, I would, but he's only 13!

I noticed that a lot of his buddies carried wallets with chains attached to them. At our local neighborhood mall, you can buy chains that are even longer, like up to 54 inches or so.

Ever been whipped by a chain?

Ouch.

And yes, all of the V-Gar/bandana/Bandando techniques translate just DANDY to the chain wallet! Just look at the bruises on my arm and neck
