I prurchased a CQC-10 6 weeks ago. The first time I oiled it it developed a squeak which I cant get rid of. I have taken the knife appart over 10 times. I have cleaned it each time. Used 6 different kinds of oil (including graphite). I collect knives & I have never seen any thing like this before. I emailed emerson. They never emailed me back. I called emerson spoke to a old lady she stated she knows nothing about knives. She called back & said emerson has used many different kinds of oils & that was all she could do. She acted like I was bothering her by calling.
If this was a company that produced cheap knives which cost $25 then I would not be bothered but emerson is suposed to have a good quality product. I would not recommend a emerson to anyone especially after the response I got from customer svc & no email. I will probably be using the CQC-10 as a bait knife & use my cheap bait knife for everyday carry!

I'm surprised that you've had trouble with Emerson service since my experience and the experience of many others is that Emerson service is outstanding. I recommend that you give them another try. Call, email, or send in your knife with a note describing the problem.

I've purchased six Emerson knives in the last year and all have been excellent quality. I do know that there have been a fair number of complaints on various forums about "squeakers" so there may be a problem with ball detents.

If you are so sour on the CQC-10 that you don't like it anymore, it's a popular model and easy to sell. If you bought it for a reasonable discounted price you will likely not lose much.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. I too have had excellent quality from my Emerson's, as well as their customer serivice. Sounds like a little ba luck.
Usually the customer service is great, so I don't know the deal there. I'll agree with roshi that maybe you need to send it in or sell it if it's a really big problem.

Best of luck to you, and I hope your problems get solved.

Hi
I hope you can understand (how I fell) that after several cut fingers & money spent on the oil's I am quite upset. I purchased the knife beause of the "HK" logo on the blade & I like the design of the knife. I do not intend to sell it but I am quite disipointed with the squeaking/customer svc problem.
Thanks
ps what is the ball detent?

the ball detent is the little ball on the liner which keeps the blade in place when closed, dont know what ya could do to fix any probs with that, prob send back to EKI.

any good oil will work fine, as long as its a light oil like gun oil, although breakfree doesnt work well for me. i use tuffglide or militec, either one is good, the remington gun oil in the clear bottle/yellow top (they sell at walmart, less than $2) works just fine, really as good as anything.( ya can go to www.militec-1.com and they will send a free sample, and they sent mine in 3 days!) but EKI does not require any special oil, and good lite oil is just fine.

i would lube it with good oil and loosen/tighten the pivot and working the thing open/closed a few times and see if that helps - other than that send it back to EKI, they will make it right. and email is not the best way, they are slooow on that, call them, if ya get someone whos a jerk/doesnt have a clue, ask for a manager, there are several guys (and gals) there who do know whats up, and have always been cool to me.

good luck, hope i helped a little,

greg

I have only dealt with Emerson CS once, but it was a great experience. I sent in an old Commander that was having lock problems. A week or two later I got back a knife with new liners, new blade, and all new hardware. That is pretty hard to beat, especially since I had modified the knife to have a standard edge and it was about 4 years old at the time.

I also have had great dealings with emerson. I have sent back 2 knives for service, with both problems due to use and abuse. one was fixed for a minimal charge for replaced liners and shipping, the other had the blade reground, the clip replaced and the handle screws replaced all for FREE... the only charge was $5 for shipping. Both of my knives were sent back to me fixed in less then two weeks.
as for the squeeking problem, instead of oil, try some grease. a little dab of grease made for guns works very well and due to it being thicker doesn't wear off as fast and tends to stay in place better.
Shooters choice makes a good grease and there are even some out there that are teflon based, and a little bit goes a long way.

sorry for your troubles with emerson, but I would try to call back and ask if there is someone else besides the "old lady" that you could speak to.

"She acted like I was bothering her by calling."

Will almost bet have talked to the same PITA there.

She was so condescending it pissed me off enoung that have never bought another knive from them.

The quality of the Commander I had sucked anyway!

Not to mention they sent me the wrong knife to begin with....their La Gif :barf:
