I'm sure this has been debated a thousand times, but as a newbie, I figured I'd ask who uses what. I mean, I have all sorts of specialty firearms and airgun CLPs; I figured there must be some strong and worthwhile opinions in the knife community.

Any suggestions and opinions would be appreciated. Or just point me in the direction of some useful threads.

Right now, I use TSI-301. It's a synthetic ester CLP that's used on firearms and fishing reels. Seems to be good stuff on my knives both as a lubricant and a protectant (though time will tell about the latter). I have found it a great CLP for both firearms and expensive airguns.

TIA,

Kirk

I use for decades :

Ballistol
Spindle Oil
food grade Mineral Oli
some vintage leather/wood Oil

That's All Folks

What your using should be fine actually. I use Go-Juice by ALG Defense on all my stuff. And it made a big difference, but yours is fine.

Mineral Oil on blades used for food.
Break Free CLP on fixed/blades not used for food and Renaissance Wax under the scales.
Go-Juice on auto/folder actions.

Kirk, don't over complicate it, what you are already using is ideal for all your needs.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I am grateful to Kirk Raptor Kirk Raptor for starting this thread because I have the same questions.

Sort of been waiting for someone to mention Knife Pivot Lube (KPL) or Nano-Oil. Are these not recommend by our forum gurus?

I use 10 weight Nano Oil on all my moving parts. Great stuff. Recently picked up a tube of Gunny Glide but haven't had a chance to use it yet. For blade protection I use this camelia oil and it works fine: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TPFVHC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I figure if it's good enough for the Samurai it's good enough for me. :)

Here's a link to some corrosion testing Josh from REK did with several different substances. It may give you some ideas on that side at least.

For me it depends what conditions and uses knives will see as to what I use on them.

Kirk Raptor Kirk Raptor If you want a really good pivot lube for knives try Gunny Juice which you can get at gritomatic,I used it on my Manix 2 and it really smoothed out action a lot.

Gunny Juice has graphene in it which is 200 times stronger then steel and it helps to burnish the internal part's like the copper washers,it's the best I have ever used for sure.

I have also used Go-Juice and it works really good on pivots and is really slippery I find that because it's about as thin as water it doesn't last very long and you need to reapply it.

They make some Go-Juice 0000 thin grease also.
I've tried the grease and it maybe alright for a bolt action gun where you may want to wipe it on but it doesn't stay in place they,I like the Go-Juice product's for stuff but knife pivot's on knives like Hinderer and a Spyderco Manix 2 Gunny Juice is way better.

I find with Gunny Juice once the knife has been opened a bunch of times and the graphene has done it's job even when the oil has gone away on my Manix 2 it's still feels like it as oil in it.

With knives like Benchmade and the Spyderco PM2 they are looser fitting knives and I find that oiling them doesn't help much.

I don't have any of those knives so I'll take your word on it. That Gunny Juice sounds like the Bicycle Finish Line Dry Lubricant. I used the Go-Juice 0000 Grease on the fans in the Cool Pad for my laptop, and the fans are still running nice and quiet.

Gunny Glide is nothing like Finish Line Dry Lubricant,Gunny Glide has graphene and hexagonal boron nitride.

With Gunny Glide it really smooths out knives that are flippers and that use copper washer's that are a precise fit,it really smooths the action out a lot and much better then any other lube on the market that I have found.

Also I was saying to use Gunny Juice and that's his emulsion Gunny Glide is the pivot lube.

I'll have to get some to try on my auto's.

When you say auto's do you mean out the front knives,if so Scott Gunn the maker of Gunny Glide just released an OTF lube as well.

It's called Gunny Magic and it's a thinner version meant for OTF's check this video out hid on using it to fix an OTF knife.

Omaha Knife has has Gunny Magic OTF and if you google Omaha Knife and then use their search and just type in Gunny it will come right up.

I added a Titanium ball cage to my Manix 2 and a ceramic ball as well and that really smoothed out my Manix 2 and I wouldn't have thought you could smoothed out the action anymore and when I added Gunny Glide to my Manix 2 and cycled it about 500 or more times it smoothed it out even more.
