Popular Mechanics nod to Becker

Thanks for this. I also disagree with some of the choices. I mean a Gerber at number 6? Ahead of the 2? Get real.

Those lists are so silly. I only own one on the list, the box cutter, and it does not stand out even among my box cutters.

I disagree with most of their list, but they got it almost right.
Victorinox Farmer (not hiker)
Leatherman Charge (not rebar)
Can't badmouth a Case Sodbuster, jr.
Chef's knife? BK5 not that Masamoto thing.
Imperial single bladed jack (not a utility knife, sheesh)
A gerber gator machete for $50? Wtf! Tramontina, Condor, Svord machetes and in under $30!
BK2, have one, love it, abuse it, it's a BEAST.

Nice to see the Becker getting some love. Their description of it makes it sound like just another knife though. Cuts chow and rope? Umm yeah, and it can also baton through kryptonite. It is a beast for sure, I had one but ended up selling it because it was too bulky and heavy for my needs. I wish I would have kept it as a truck knife though....

I saw a "15 things every one should have in their house" List and the BK 2 was on it also. Made me happy

The BK5 is not a substitute for a chef's knife.
But it should be on the list by itself anyway.

I think the article does a fairly good job. They are not suggesting one knife but having all of them or something similar to cover a wide variety of knife chores. I'd pass on the Gerber. But that is me. Multi-tool... everyone has their favorites based on their usage and experience. The BK-2 is a good choice when you have just one. I prefer the BK-16, but that is me.

That Stanley utility knife looks like one of the retractable models... I hate those kind. In any kind of construction application, the mechanism gets all hunkers up and doesn't lick correctly resulting in busted knuckles.

Cool that a becker is on the list....the list is pretty bad though, lol....i box knife? and a gerber machete? those aren't really even knives, lol?!?!?
