Porcupine eating my car. Mothballs, Yes. Neem oil????

So it's common knowledge that a half a sock full of mothballs under your car will keep the little wire munchers away from your car while your hiking for a few days. I think the little guys must know that the mothballs one can buy in these days are 1,4-dichlorobenzene a neuro-toxin and a carcinogen. I don't really want to be in my car with the windows rolled up (because it's winter) driving back home with a very strong smell of this in my car. Anybody know if Neem Oil would work just as well?

I have been using bitter apple dog spray all over my car the last few trips but that stuff is a little expensive. 2 trips= one $9.00 bottle
