Sectioning a porcupine-killed beech tree with a Rinaldi "Cadore" axe. Note the way the notch is cut by opening two smaller notches then walking the blows across the face of the log to take "deck of cards" chips rather than "dinner plates". This tree was already dry enough that the outside of it was starting to check heavily. We've had a fire danger warning for the past couple of weeks.

It's a heck of an axe, much like every other Rinaldi I've taken for a spin. Took my modified "Milano" pattern (it's rehung on a longer curved handle) out later to take care of the limbing and make a few blocks to elevate the log so it stays fresh until I decide what I want to do with it.
