High all, I am looking for some guidance on collecting Busse.

I realize collecting is a personal and sometimes private thing and I generally get what I like but sometimes doing that you end up with a lot of the same thing.

So in general does one focus on the past while adding the current production or are custom shop knives more collectible?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Well, I collect mostly just meaners, I try to stick to that and get what I can of them. But I find the old ones irresistible sometimes so I have few of those and then there are some large ones that I just have to have.
Lots of people collect certin colors handle/blade but then Busse may never make a killer knife you want but just not in the combo you collect... So I would suggest you pick a color combo or one type of Busse to start collecting but when you see something you just have to have, but it anyway, you won't regret it even if it doesn't match what you have...

I simply picked the scales / blade combination which I liked best and tried to get anything I could from past and current offerings. Later I realised that the tigerhide/satin combo is not the cheapest ;) and that not all knifes are available in this set up. So I opened up a second collection line which is black G-10 with jungle green blade. Now I've just opened the third line, which is black canvas micarta with double cut finish.

However, if you collect knifes for collecting knifes the custom shop models are most collectible for sure. If you collect knifes for using them the combat grade models are most collectible. The Limited Editions are somewhere in between.

Let us know what is your strategy when you have made up your mind

Cheers,

A-S

I myself am still new to Busse collecting but I have gotten some older models from the exchange here, if you wait for it you can get some pretty good deals. I have also bought from the Busse booth at a knife show, company store, and scored in a ganzaa.

The cheapest way to get into collecting new Busses would be going to a knife show they are attending or buying directly from Busse, because most times mint blades on the exchange go for more than what they originally cost.

I like to use my knives and only have a couple that I consider safe queens that are an investment. On the exchange you can get users for great prices, and they are already broken in for you.

I do not yet have a "color scheme" or certain blade that I have decided to collect, so I have tried to mix it up, and get a variety so I can find what I like best.

Don't let this guy fool you, he may only have two feedbacks but he has more then two Busse :-)

Heck, gotta respect a guy that goes GOLD with 2 posts. Good on'ya.

I really enjoy the site and got a cool arrowhead in the process:D

Sandstorm & Satin is my favorite, but my son likes the Orange and Black G10 so probably will start on that next.

With regard to collecting, I would caution you that the period of serious resale appreciation has passed. If you buy a fancy scaled Custom Shop knife, don't assume that you will be able to flip it for a profit anytime you need some cash. The resale market is awash with blades, and the bubble has burst.

Buy what you like, and enjoy what you own.

With all due respect Sir, The market today is not an indication of what it will be, and all we have at best is just a guess

I think positive!
