I have been considering buying a pork belly skinner.

My idea is that if i get one i could serrate the upper edge before the point of the blade, like the tops tracker knife.

Is this at all practical????

And if i could get someone to do it how much do you think it would cost me???

Thanks for taking time to answer what might be a stupid question.

Sure you could probably do it.... and is it practical?.....
That depends on how much you'd actually use it!
How much would it cost? Probably not too much.
I'd think you could find someone to do it for $50-100,
and I would like to recommend Bill Siegle, if he'll do it, that is.
Good Luck!

If you got a PBS and tried to do the mod, I bet you'd be thinking "dumb idea" real quick.

You might end up with a knife that may look somewhat the same, but it would function real differently. The Pork Belly Skinner is only a 3 1/2 inch blade and just 3/16 inch thick - itty bitty compared to the Tracker. The serrations on the back of the tracker are not for sawing, but for cutting square notches for making traps, snares etc. With the thin wide blade of the PBS, you could just as easily just cut the notches with the front sharp part of the blade.

Ditto on that, is hard to apreciate the size from pictures but the PBS is not a big blade. You probably get like two to three steps of serrations.

I'm getting images of the MOD Scorpion, which is a little smaller. Double edge blades are illegal where I live and I always worried that my little Scorpion with the serrated top edge would wind up putting me in jail. Food for thought.

i wouldn't do it. the pbs is made to skin and you need to have that area smooth to place your index finger for some of your work.

imho

Thanks for the input ive decided just to get a tracker.

But it wont be infi. :(

So now im thinking D2 does this sound about right?

MTknives are hard to beat...I am pretty sure that Linger still makes them, but he has a wait time of around......2 weeks!!:)

But out of curiosity who makes the best in 1095????

does linger still make them???

If not who make one like the beck version??? with the good triangular serrtions not the cut out ones?????

Linger definitely still makes them, but as stated there is definitely a 2 week waiting period. I did not go with 1095, but D2 instead. Rodger does beautiful work though and IMHO it's worth the wait.

The Busse will be a much better performer, don't waste your hard earned cash on the shitty steel of another brand.
