Portable Airconditioners

Anyone here have or use a portable airconditioner. I put replacement windows in and unfortunately I cannot find an airconditioner small enough to fit in the window. My last resort is to cut a hole in the side of the house for one of the portables, but I would like to avoid doing that.

I too would be interested in anyone's personal experience with these. My third floor is so freakin' hot in the summer that it may as well not even exist. The rest of the house stays very cool, so I just need something for the third story, and being on the third floor, there's no simple way to install a traditional unit.

A few years ago I read reviews that indicated none of the portable units were very good (expensive, noisy, mediocre performance). I'm wondering if the technology has improved since then.

got one in my room at home, one in my server room at my office and one in a clients server room.

three different models all work well. from that website listed before:

http://www.brilliantcooler.com/conditioner/sunpentown_wa1010e.htm this one in my room at home. works well, I have it vented out my window. can't make my room cold but definately cools it.

http://www.brilliantcooler.com/conditioner/portable_conditioner_lx140.htm that one at the office in the server room, nice because you never have to drain the water. you have two ducts instead of one.

It really just depends on how big of a room you have, the smaller the better, these things don't do great with large rooms. They are also quite loud.
