I'm looking for a portable, economical, rechargeable car jump starter that will work for 6-8 cyl with a dead battery.

Google is not my friend and reviews for products seem to be mixed between "junk" and "greatest product ever" for the same product.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Nobody?

I do not want to need to call AAA if I'm out in the mountains or there is a weather emergency. Am looking for a compact device I can stow in my vehicle before trips, recharging occasionally, that will actually jump start the car when required to do so.

We have Advance Automotive and Auto Zone in this area. 950 charger/jumpers are in the $80-$130 range. Reviews of these products vary greatly.

If any of y'all can recommend a usable portable jumper under $200 it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I carry the car jumper thing. Got mine at Sears, as the Sears version allows the internal battery to be replaced when it croaks eventually. I have had other versions from Target (Vector brand maybe) which were fine, but when the internal battery is deceased you have to throw away the whole unit. Has also a compressor and rides in the vehicle with me. Its mighty nice to be able to jump yourself without the help of a stranger or calling AAA. And it makes helping others easy, as you don't have to relocate your vehicle to jump someone else. I have saved many damsels in distress, provoking gratitude. I also carry a battery terminal brush (circular design that fits down over the terminal), as the prob is often not a battery problem but corroded terminals.

Mine is very similar to this one from Sears.

Mine rides in a plastic bin full of Man Stuff:

Just this morning, my 72y old mother was able to jump her vehicle with one of these that she carries. She was out in the middle of nowhere too, so it was mighty helpful.

LOL, my gear stays in a plastic bin just like that in my truck. Great minds think alike. Is that a Maxpedition Centurion, MPB, or one of the other attaches?

I got a smallish Black & Decker unit at Walmart almost three years ago. It's instantly started several cars with dead batteries and holds a usable charge for a hell of a long time.
Having said that,.......I will probably need it tonite and it will be dead.
Have been thinking about getting a new one with an air compressor.
