Can anyone provide me with some information or a website for portable GPS devices. I am looking to pick one up but I have no idea what to look for or where to buy. Thanks.

What are you looking for? Car navigation? Hiking? Geocaching?

The Garmin StreetPilot 2610/2650 are excellent car navigation GPS devices with detailed street level maps, auto route creation, audio directions, etc:

If you're looking for a very basic non-mapped GPS for hiking or geocaching, the Geko's are good values and very small:

I've found this vendor to have very good prices and good service:

I really like the usability of the Garmin units in general. For whatever pricepoint you're shopping in, look closely at the Garmin offerings. I like the ease of use (very intuitive) of their units. The ergonomics and displays are very good as well.

For a cheaper generic GPS unit, the Garmin Geko 201 seems to hit a sweet spot for price and performance in a non-specific use application.

agree, any of the garmins are good, even the cheapies, good batt life and good quick tracking, cant beat 'em imho.

This may be a stupid question to some, but does one need to subscribe to a service or pay a fee to connect to satillite? Or do just take it out of the box and link up.

You already paid the fee via your US Federal Income Tax. :)

Nope, nothing to subscribe to, nothing to pay for other than the hardware.

Garmin Rhino GPS & FRS/GMRS Transciever Combo is a great choice.

Two different functions built into one unit that also has a unique location sending function to another Rhino. It comes in two models,... the 110 & 120.

I have several different GPS units;.. but the Garmin Rhino 120 are my hands down favorites! :D

LG1

I've seen posts about that wristwatch. If you want to use the GPS feature you'll have to replace the battery every few minutes.

If you look for a cheap GPS, then visit amazon.com.
They don`t deliver outside the US, unfortunately:( .
