So for the millionth time my wife left her headlights on and needed a jump start.

I am not always around to make this happen.

Does anyone have an easy to use portable jump starting device they can recommend? Something she can store in the trunk of her car?

Stanley J5C09 jump starter. Holds charge for over a year. Available Lowes, walmart, also online.

I have this one from Sears, and it comes in very handy.

Consider buying one like this that has a replaceable internal battery. Otherwise, when the jumper's battery dies, you have to trash the whole unit. This Sears flavor is a good one.

Its buried in here: :)

Good thread, I'm hoping there are more suggestions. I'd like to get one of these as well.

Once I was just outside of Death Valley and I had camped in the middle of a dry lake bed maybe six miles from the nearest road.

When I was leaving and started the car, it BARELY started. I made a vow right there that I wouldn't try something like that again without one of these portable chargers.

The one I find most appealing thus far is the Rally 7471 which has multiple functions and also a hand generator feature.
