Portable knife display/storage

I have around 60 knives and just keep them in a few shoe boxes. Some of the knives have to be stacked on top of each other, which makes some of the knives hard to get to. I want something better looking, and more functional.

I need some sort of carry case that allows easy access to all of my knives (which range from small slipjoints to large-ish fixed blades). I understand that fitting them all in one case would require a very large case, so I would prefer to split them up into 2-4 cases.

I don't really care about "display" (i.e. showing off my knives), but I want to be able to open the case and be able to see the knives so I can get the one I want instead of having to hunt for it.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I've never seen those containers. Will a Buck 119 fit in one?

A duffel bag isn't really what I am looking for. I want something more like a breifcase or small toolcase with compartments so I can have the knives seperated.

Several briefcases with foam that is cut out for each knife would be ideal, but I'd rather buy something cheaper and easier than buying some briefcases and foam and cutting it all out myself.

Yep, that's pretty much what I want. A tad pricey, though, since I will need at least 2 of them. Still a good bet.

Thanks.

Click onto the link for the auction,(I'm not associated with this auction or ebayer, I'm not even recooending you buy this, it's for illustration purposes only)

I like the compartmentalized tackle boxes, especially the new crop of aluminum tackle/make up boxes, they're affordable, and customizable.

I use Tackle boxes to store and organize my personal collection.

T. Erdelyi- That looks pretty good, but I wish it had more width or less height. I am also not sure it has enough compartments. I'd like each knife to have its own. It might work though. I don't have the money right now, so I will consider it and the case Chett suggested from NGK. And maybe something else will pop up, too.

Thanks guys.

I store mine in a 25mm ammo box with a lock that is bolted into the slab in the basement. It is a heavy nylon with waterproof lid. You could use it for transport also. I keep the individual knives in their own plastic sleeves or in small ziplock sandwich bags after lubing them with Breakfree CLP and putting them back in their original box. This keeps them dry and clean and scratch free. I then put all of one brand in a big Ziplock Freezer bag. All my Spydercos are in one bag. Benchmades, etc. are in their own bags.

You want to store them in a cool dry place, not up in a hot attic.

Here is link to storage boxes and locks for them. They are out of a bunch of them but you will get a good idea of looks and size. I like the 25mm size.

I keep mine in Pelican cases (with silica dry bags).

Hard case, adjustable foam padding (well, at least initially), air/water proof, and lockable.

DGG, the ones on that site look cool, but I am not sure about the compartments. There seems to be too few. I will check out some other ammo boxes at sporting goods stores around me, though.

orthogonal, by "adjustable" do you mean you can cut the foam to shape? That would be great. I will look into Pelican cases.

Check out your local hardware store or the tool section of a department store. Around this time last year i picked up a set of 2 aluminum tool cases, a large one with a smaller one inside, for under $30 Canadian. They look kinda like briefcases and have a light foam coating on the intererior and came with adjustable deviders. I made mine out of wood along with a removable tray.
