Did a search with no luck.

I'm looking for a portable (smallish) leather strop that's carriable and effective. I don't mind if the strop has a solid back. Price is not a factor if it buys quality and dependability.

Please share your experiences and recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

I like My 2 side Flexxx strop. But I found I like the one I made even better. They are incredibly simple to make and its a rewarding experience to sharpen your knives with a tool (very simple but nonetheless) you made yourself. But a 2 side flexxx strop I think I paid $14 shipped and it was pre loaded with compound though it disappears quickly so I would get some of that too.

If you want to make a strop I just went to michaels crafts and got a 11 x 8.5" sheet of leather used for crafting and a square table leg from home depot and some decent glue. I think I used gorilla all purpose. You obviously wouldnt be using a table leg but you would be able to make a small strop to fit your exact needs size wise.

I've seen a few posts on here of people taking the back of their leather belt and rubbing in some black and/or green compound. Its not as nice as the other options posted but I thought it was creative and portable for sure if you are wearing

Town Cutler in SF.

I have that kit from KSF also. It works great for convex bevels and grinds.

I also have 3 of the DLT Mini Field Hones. I keep black, white and no compound on them and keep them in my desk drawer at the office together with a small DMT diamond hone (coarse) Yes, I'm that guy, sharpens his knives on his lunch break. :P

Or if you want to spend a little more, you could get just one of these and put black on one side and white on the other. No need for much more than that really.

Excellent recommendations! These are on my list!

The Flexx Strops looks verry funcional. I'm held back by the length the strop, though. I love the 2 sided design!

I agree you should make your own. A little Gorilla glue, a piece of scrap leather from the craft store, and some green compound on the back of a fine diamond pocket stone makes a pretty handy portable field sharpener.

I saw this video a while back, and made something similar to my own liking, which I haven't been able to find since moving into the new house last year. I think it's mixed into the camping stuff still buried in back of the garage somewhere. But great basic platform.

I wear a belt. So, I put white compound on one side and black compound on the flesh side. With me all the time.

Go to your local shoe repair shop and ask to buy one leather sole. For just a couple of dollars you'll have a small, pocket-sized (cut it to a rectangular shape if you need to) hard leather substrate that will work as good or better than anything you can buy that is sold as a pocket strop. Sole leather is cut from the back of the shoulder of the cow, and is the most dense, firm part of the leather. Exactly what is needed for a portable strop. If you want to make it even better, follow the directions I've given previously for 'casing' the leather for a perfect strop.

Google brommeland gun leather strop. I have one and it's great, they make several sizes one being a pocket strop.

That Brommeland piece, unloaded, looks darn good I don't have one but I'd give it series consideration. BRKT black and white compound to go with it would be a good combination in the field.
