Any ideas on making light weight targets that will stand up to repeted use that do not weigh more than say fifty pounds or so?
I have made several but all are heavy and cumbersum. Looking for something to take to with me when going camping and the like.

If you have a chance to get tatami, cut it in half and it will make a good target. It weighs under 10 lbs, soft but durable, doesn't stick to knife, gentle to the edge retention a little bit than piled cardboards.

I throw knives fifteen and a half inches or better in the sixteen ounce range. Also have hatchets and a hawk. The targets I have made I have used four by fours strapped across the back with two by fours. Rotating the four bys when the faces get really chewed up.
Mizutani what is tatami?

KT, tatami was invented around thousand years ago, a kinda laminated wodden board of 3' X 6' X 1" surfaced/covered by thin plant carpet. Originally it was spread on wooden floor to be used as matress. A shogun improved to make it bullet proof 450 years ago. Not protect current bullets but enough for muzzle loader at then. Soft to sit on, and tough to stop bullets or arrows. If cut into halves its size is 3' square, less impact on tip of knife.

Durability isn't the problem , but dusts I have no solution.

Tatami like many other civilized goods, not available in US. Not even for dojo floors.
