I'm going to Portland next Friday night-Sunday. My wife has some convention, so I will be on my own for most of Saturday. What should I try to get to?

We are staying where the convention is out at the Howard Johnsons on Riverside, which I understand is not really in the city.

Also, I hear Portland is a great food town. Tell me where I can get awesome food cheap (i.e. no white tableclothes for me)

Thanks.

I know Portland ain't NYC, but there is nothing to do? Just throwing it back up to the top.

Here are my favorite places:

Sushi: Yosaku Japanese Restaurant
1 Danforth St, Portland, ME
(207) 780-0880 ‎
Amazing sushi.

Pizza: Flatbread Co
72 Commercial St, Portland, ME

They also have a good selection of local beer.

Drink a few beers at Gritty's McDuff in Portland or Free Port. In Free Port there is a cutlery shop just next to Gritty's.

Thanks guys. I didn't realize Freeport was so close. I am geographically challenged.

The Great Lost Bear is a great place to eat and drink. It is on Forest Ave. in Portland.
They have AWESOME Buffalo Wings and a huge selection of beers. The sample platters of beer are fun. Served by folks in jeans and T's.
Good food and great beer.www.greatlostbear.com

The Portland Pie Company has a great selection of pizza and beer. (See a theme here with my food habits)?http://portlandpie.com/
If you go to the Portland Pie in Scarborough ( 5 miles from Portland) it is in the Cabelas parking lot. Food, beer and a good outdoors store.

There are a couple of places I enjoy!

Have fun and welcome to Maine.
The knife shop in Freeport is The Freeport Knife Co. Nice selection, typical retail prices.www.freeportknife.com

In Bath, across the street from Bath Iron Works Shipyard there's a place called "Cabin" where they serve an awesome white pizza.
