Going to those 2 places. From what I've searched, I gather I will not be carrying any knife, as they are all large spydercos, and such. I don't think portland has any special laws as I am on the midcoast and we have no blade length limit on folders, and fixed blades, long as they're single edge, and no autos, or balisongs. LEO often stop you to see where they can get the knife you're wearing.

So, pretty much no knives in Boston, correct?

you can definitely carry a slip-joint in Boston. and i'd also stick with one in Portland too. Maine is pretty open to carrying, as you must know, but Portland is a whole other ball game. you will get hassled there if you take one of your larger, lock-up-like-a-jail-cell knives. tho i think the situation may be improving there.

but either-or, i usually go with a SAK or a multi-tool in Portland or Boston.

Edit:
forgot a bit of important info. the blade limit in Boston is also 2.5 inches.

The blade limit in boston is 2.5 inches, but a SAK main blade is over that limit...what a stupid rule (and of course this has been covered, but it deserves another gripe!!)

I generally don't prefer to carry very large knives, but I've never had any trouble in Portland, I wouldn't call it a "whole other ballgame" compared to the rest of Maine. The only law on Bernard Levine's site makes autos illegal. I see spydercos, bucks in belt pouches and leathermans all over the place up here. Remember, it's an open carry state.

I'd agree that Boston is a whole other ballgame. I've never been hassled at all with my clip visible on my pocket in Boston. It's a good thing too, 'cause I was carrying too long a blade. I've got my old S&W SWAT that I pocket there now.
