Some folks prefer tip up, feeling that it puts the knife in a more usable position in the hand when drawn, some prefer tip down, either from fear of a tip up knife opening enough in the pocket to be dangerous, or because they favor the spydie drop opening method and feel tip down works better with it. Within each group you have right and left handed users and users who may wish to carry a particular knife as a weak side weapon. The Chinook II allows each user to select the clip mounting position that they prefer, or try both if they have not yet decided which to use. Darn fine idea in my book. As for me, I'm left handed and a devout coward, so my Chinook II is now set up for LH tip down carry.
