Possibility of BM "5"2?

I love my BM42, but my good old 45S is fast and light enough. If BM can supply BM 52 with 5" blade, weighing same asBM45, it'd be my ideal balisong.

Any comments are welcome.

I would much rather see a 3" from Benchmade. I don't care if it is out of ultralight Ti, which would be cool as hell and I would buy several as they would have many places in my carry rotation, or out of the old standard SS, as I could use a few new ones at a slightly lower price than they are currently available at.

I think a 5" is getting into the realm of being too long for practical carry. It might be nice to have one back at the house to flip, but I don't think it would have the success that the 3" and 4" models of the past had and the 42 is having now.

WrongFriend,

I too wish for a 5" or even a 5.5" Bali from Benchmade. I would like to see a Bowie style with a sharpened false edge. When I get my shop up and running, I'll let you see some of the prototype 5" Balisong blades I have in the works. Stay tuned!

I don't know, I think a 5" blade would be a bit to much for general uses but I'd buy one to play with around the house no problem.

I think I would like to see a 5" bladed bali from Benchmade or any other company or maker.

Sure, I would like to see a 5", but I would much rather see a 3" again. But for the time being, I am looking forward to a new blade style for the 42.

Changing the length would mean retooling the handle casting. That would be expensive. I'm not saying that BM might not eventually do it, but I suspect it'll be a bit farther down the road. A second blade profile, though, well that just might happen a bit sooner.

I agree that Benchmade should release some other blade styles before going to new lengths.
There is already a demand for the knives, and as Chuck points out, keeping the price for production to a minimum would be a concern for BM. Maybe a Stryker or Pinnacle bladed 42 or something of that nature?

Thanx for comments! I was surprised many people want even lighter balisong than #42. I'm afraid I can't feel the weight of a 3incher in my hand. Can fly away anytime.

Here's an idea/compromisation for long blade. Compared to FHMs, a BM balisong has longer handles with 1 inch of room at the butt end. I agree the "H" latch gate is a great idea, but if you don't need a latch, you can have longer blade to match the handle size. If latch is available, it'd be much better.

How about a 4 and a half inch blade? I would like a longer blade than a four inch, but i got small hands, so a 4 1/2" would be ideal.

There seems it's possible with the half inch of room in #42 handle end. Is there a legality problem in blade length in some states?

Why? You don't like the BM42?
