Possible alternative forge blower?

I was just screwing around with the possibility of using this as BBQ blower as a (cheaper!) alternative to buying an antique hand cranked forge blower.

IDK, just a thought :p

I love it when other people besides me come up with creative sources for equipment. As long as it can move enough air it should work, but its so small, that I doubt it. Since its so cheap, I say go ahead and try it if your forge is small. But if it isn't, and you happen to have an old gas furnace lying around, you can probably pull a blower out of there, like I did, for free, and it wouldn't be hard to hook up a hand crank to something like that.

PS. I'm pretty sure I butchered the laws of grammar on this post. :D

Those little things deliver a fraction of the air needed.
A regular burner blower like shown above can often be had for free. Go to a heating and AC repair shop and talk to the folks there. They will probably give you an old blower. It can often be made variable speed by using a light dimmer.
For hand crank forge blowers, keep checking ebay. They often sell very cheap.

I built a simple forge and am using an old blow dryer as the fan. It may seem ghetto, but it moves a lot of air and the design of the "gun" makes it a breeze to assemble to the pipe.

Thompsonblades-
If you hook those 2 wires up to a 110 volt socket, it will move a lot more air than with a hand crank!

Yup, get the draft inducing blower, like the one pictured above. Indian George hooked me up with one of these; cheap and works great.

Really, I hadn't realized that. :D Thanks.

I've actually been using this blower for several months and have been critisized for using a simple dimmer instead of a speed controller.

:thumbup:Very cool. I just use mine with a gate valve to adjust the air flow.
