Hi Guys , i am from a Metal Detecting site and we have had a poster post a find that has us stumped so far , i am hoping some one here can give me a ID on this so we can help the OP know what he has found.
the Item was found in NY close to a confirmed Indian Village and a area that was traveled pre revolution .
Again we have no idea of age of this item , just it was found in the area of The Schoharie Valley Of NY.

well i do not have a account with any site that i can add photos and have always done them from my desktop so i will post the link to our forums post instead so you can see it , thanks again for any help.

It looks like an early hand forged type of ice axe or possibly a mortise axe which is an axe for cutting holes in beams.

I've seen old hawks with long blades like that one before the eye looks kinda strange but you never know. Tomorrow I will post a picture can't from my phone . The picture I have looks just like yours but its a spike hawk post your pictures and mine tomorrow.

Definitely an ice axe, they're a semi common find around here in NY. The Hudson River was big for ice harvesting back in the days before electric freezers.

I will post a link when I get to my computer in a bit if you email me your pictures I will post them for you tried to copy you're pics couldn't do it.

I am definitely no expert but I do know that a lot of things were repurposed into hawks Spontoon hawks were lance heads welded to an eye to make hawks. This hawks head is very similar to the one you have except for the spike of course. When I get a chance I will post a link to a site where they no way more than me the eye on this one looks very similar the oval shape on yours.
