possible EDC?

So I've been in the shop as much as I can be lately, and needed to do something simple to help get the blood flowing and get my eyes/hands back in coordination.

I've got several sheets of O1 that I'd like to get some blanks water-jet cut from at some point, and think this knife would work well as an EDC. It would be sort of in line with Burt's Blue Collar hunters.... I don't mean a copy, I mean as a machine finished, affordable, carry grade knife.

No worries, I'm not putting this ahead of anything, just throwing some feelers out there.

What do you think?

I think you're still ahead of the curve:)

I want to add that the handle looks a little fat proportionately to the blade in two of these pics, but it doesn't seem to look or feel that way in hand. Weird...

That looks like a solid design and I thnk the overall concept is a good one. I'm just not sure you will be able to let a knife out of your shop with a belt finish, though. :p

Thanks guys. :) Please don't hesitate to post your gut reaction to it.

Roger... you've got a good point! But I've been going to a hand-sanding therapy session :D ;)

Nick you know I love your work but that is a little smaller than I would want but I am sure I am the exception

Bigger blade Joe? Longer, wider, or both?

Guys, don't worry about hurting my feelings... better to hear all your thoughts now, than after something's been cut, ground, heat-treated, handled, and sheathed! (well, except this one of course, LOL :D)

make mine with a 3 - 1 1/2" blade Nick ;)

darn good idea...

so what's the real deal ? Injury to the hammer arm after visiting the metropolis ? :D

It looks like it would make an excellent capeing knife . I was just playing around with the size comment . I do carry a larger blade day to day but like I said before I am the exception and you would be much better off staying in the size range that you are in.

Here's one that's just ever so slightly different, with a roughed in handle. Can't remember the last time I did a full tang that wasn't tapered.... but in trying to keep costs down.

There is a shot that shows how I can make the radius at the choil slightly tighter so that the edge could be brought down further.

Note the custom name mark I had made for me by Sharpie ;) :D

A case where good (idea) is more than enough.

I'd stand in line for one if the pirates in D.C. hadn't robbed me of my minuscule retirement surplus. Peeking at the "Stimulus" Bill just passed by the House, I see where Pelosi and crazies are seeking to add rape to their rap sheets.

In a short time the low budget knife might be the only viable product in the business, but I'm not even confident of that, as cascading layoffs in my little world are frightful but gentle hints of what's to come if the politicians continue the insanity.

I figured out what I didn't like. I cut the radius at the "choil" back a little. Then I pulled (ground) the plunge cut back about 3/8."

That makes it much more balanced... more like a general utility/hunter and less like a small game/caping knife.

Maybe I can throw one together and do a pass-around for you guys here to see what kind of consensus comes up.

THANKS FOR THE HELP and INSIGHT FOLKS!!! :D
