I have some weight lifting bars - Quality olympic style stuff - that we can't use because of a bend or overall condition>
Is this a possible material for you smiths?
I am not ready to start forging but I could trade some of this stuff to a fellow Floridian for a few grinding lessons. Lord knows I need the help.
I will try to find out the kind steel and what has been done to it so far.

Don't think so really.

1. every thing I've seen in the weightlifting business was simply hard-chromed. Which indicates mild steel underneath, which can be forged, but not for knife purposes.

2. If it isn't chromed; it should be super stainless steel, because corrosion resistance in the most important. Hence it is not forgable either.

Sorry for the bad news, but I seriously doubt that will make good blades.

Greetz, bart.

It is not hard chromed. They rust. They are pretty top of the line.
I'll try to call York and see what they are.
Just wondering...
