Hi Folks,
I am a total newbie to this style of knife so please forgive the ignorance.
This may be the wrong area to post this but it really seems that there is a ton of knowledge on these in this section of the forum.
If it is wrong to ask info here , please ignore me.
I picked this up at a local flea market a week ago. Rusty and crusty for $10.
I came home to do a bit of research before cleaning it up and taking it out to chop firepit wood with it.
The research on these is quite wide. There is just a ton to learn. I wanted to know if my current frame of thought is correct or if there is more to add to my knowledge on this particular knife.
What I believe I have found is possibly from the WWI era. Has horn handle and is Tin Chirra. No markings. Possibly and Officer piece with the horn and fullers?
Am I even close to being correct on any of this?
Thanks , Burnt Stag.

I'm going to bump this over to the Cantina where it can be wide open for discussion.
I'm wondering about the rat tail tail and being peened over at the butt plate. I'm not certain they did that back in that era.
I could of course be wrong. It's certainly patterned after the Tin Chirra.

Far wiser folks than I will be along I'm sure.

Thank you for moving the thread. Sorry for putting it in the wrong section.
So are you thinking this is possibly or likely just a tourist piece?? Probably was just being too hopeful that I had actually found something and done enough sleuthing to figure out what...lol
It has great heft to it. 24oz. Blade length is 14" and an overall length at 18 1/2".

I wouldn't say tourist piece. It looks better than that by far. I'm just thinking more modern and not an actual issued knife due to lack of markings and that peened butt plate. That's actually a good thing, stronger. But not issue.
But again that's just my thought and I could be wrong.

Nice find! That sheath certainly looks of age. The frog is missing but understandable after that much time. Id hydrate that handle in some mineral oil tho. Looks like its a bit thirsty. Definitely looks like Tin Chirra and well worth $10 id say!
Here is a not so fancy one that looks similar:

Looks around ww2 era to me, not issue , private purchase, but a real and working kukri that someone C. 1940 to 1947 thought was worth buying.

Would have cost more than most in the bazaars and khukri factors....

Obviously most people buying non village kukri at that era were in whichever armed allied forces..

Nice piece, Quite unusual in some ways...

Thanks for sharing..

Very nice vintage khukuri! Spiral knows much more than I, but I agree with him. It seems like a very nicely made private purchase\bazaar khuk. I might be hesitant to use it, as I see it more as a collectable. Also, the laha (glue) inside the handle is probably dry and cracked. As recommended, soak in mineral oil to rehydrate. My favorite method is to fill a big mayo jar with MO from any drug store and set the khuk in handle down let it soak for a day or two. You got a real bargain!
