When I got my BK7 a few weeks ago, I proceeded to the thicket behind the house to clear some brush. After only a few minutes of chopping small saplings, I noticed the screws in the grivory handle had become loose. Went to the shack, applied some blue loctite and solved the problem. No more loose screws.
Day or so later, was visiting the local Ace Hardware and took a look in their hardware section for 10/24 x 5/8" long socket head cap screws. Found them in stainless which seemed a good idea since the knife will be used for processing wild game from time to time. While looking at the stainless hardware, I stumbled onto some "lock nuts" with a nylon insert designed to keep the nut from loosening once installed. Bought six of each since my BK10 was due any day.
When the BK10 arrived I removed the grivory and used the stainless hardware to install the micarta grips. Pleased to learn that the locknuts worked as intended and don't believe they will ever loosen up. No loctite required and eliminates the need to have a 5/32" allen wrench available.
These pictures give a general idea of how the SS hardware looks and how it fits. Looks good to me and I plan to install the SS hardware on my BK7.
The small nut in the center (unused) is the same size as the Becker supplied hardware. The lock nut on the left is slightly larger but fits fine in the hexagonal recess.
Whadd'ya think?
