Possible Lockup Issues

The lock up on my Mini Commander seems to be fairly late (around 60% - 70% at the leading edge of the liner lock), though it is still solid with zero play in any direction. The question is, should I bite the bullet and *shudder* part with my beloved Emerson for a couple of weeks to have this issue taken care of? Or should I hold off on it until the problem gets worse?

Note: I'll mess with my camera and try to get a better picture.

I don't see an issue with it, unless the liner hits the opposite side, the isn't a problem with it, based on the pic.

That seems like normal lockup to me. I agree with dano. If there is no blade play in any direction, it's fine. My sister has a CQC-7 that locks up all of the way to the other side and there is still no blade play.

Me three. I don't see any problem in that pic. To me, a late lockup is one that hits the opposite scale. If I'm bettin' my fingers on a piece of steel between me and the edge, I want it to have a good bite on the blade tang. Frankly, I wouldn't want anything that's earlier than yours. From what I can tell, that looks like the entire thickness of the lockbar engages the blade tang and there's still some room for wear. That's just what my fingers like to see.

Good to know. I'll keep using it and only send it in when I absolutely have to. It would feel really odd to have this thing out of my pocket.

Looking at your pic, the lockup looks great -- I'm in the same camp as Dale. I like to see my entire lockbar engage the tang. Just a personal preference. As long as it doesn't touch the scale on the other side, you should be good.

I actually ended up cleaning whatever black sludge they use as lube out of it and replacing it with white lithium grease. This did two things; it's much smoother now (like butter) and the lock up is slightly earlier now as well, but still rock solid. Better lubrication equals better lockup? That's a new one on me.
