The other night, I was using my Meerkat to assist in the kitchen with cutting some limes (Corona). I cleaned the knife off and set it aside to dry along with some other kitchen items. Later that night, I went to oil the Meerkat and put it away when I noticed an amber piece of material stuck between the tang and the liner. You could only see it when the knife was opened and didn't seem to affect the operation.
Being annoyed, I attempted to pull the material out with a toothpick and was ultimately able to cut the majority of the material out of the knife (although quite difficult) and placed some oil in there. So now it "seems" as though the knife is operating normally.
My question is.... I remember reading about the Lil' Temperance having a very thin nylon washer between the liner and the tang to assist with smoothness of operation. Could the thin amber material that I cut away be a defective piece of spacer/washer in the Meerkat, or was it just some other piece of crap that got stuck in there and I'm being completely paranoid?
Does Spyderco use an amber colored nylon washer in the Meerkat? Did I just cut it out? If yes, should I return to Spyderco? HELP!
