Possible to add tooling to a completed sheath

Just wondering if it is possible to add tooling to an already completed sheath?

I have a few plain, oiled leather sheaths that I really like. I was wondering if it is possible to add tooling? I know that tooling is ideal with a flat piece of leather against a flat surface, as opposed to a completed sheath.

Has anyone tried this?

Generally not a good idea......generally is defined NEVER. Two vital keys missing. Flat leather surface and since it's oiled proper casing is not probable.

Thank you very much for the reply. I assumed this would be the case, but I just wanted confirmation. Thank you!
