Possible virus question...

My browser is running real slow and won't connect unless I stop and refresh. Both in IE and Firefox. I've ran Ad-Aware and it didn't find anything special, same with Hi-jackthis. AVG won't let me update to the latest definition.

It's the same on both computers in my house, so I'm thinking it's something wrong with YahooDSL, but, since I don't speak Hindu, I thought I'd ask here first, before I call them. It's been like this since I got hom from work this evening, up until now, about 6 hours. Email is working fine but sometimes have to stop and restart there too.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

lol i can relate to that had to call AOL a while back someone was mass mailing email off my sons account somehow/another (several thousand in a day) and it was a trip trying to communicate with the guy from AOL, he knew what he was doing, imho, but there was a language barrier.

i guess his english was better than my hindu, lol.

he was nice enough though........

Sometimes there can be a problem on the Internet that can slow things down, or a problem in the ISP infrastructure that can cause bottlenecks.

My suggestion would be to try again tomorrow, if its still slow try the day after. If its still slow then start to worry!!

I don't know the answer to your problem either. I was on the AVG site today trying to look for the 'free' version to install on another computer. It's no longer mentioned... :( Ouch.

I just ran an update and it seemed to do so. Mine is free version 7.0.323, and I haven't known of a problem--seems like it's still working, but I would sure like assurance.

Thanks,

Coop

Okay, i've got AVG updated, but my problems are still continuing. I have to click on a link, hit Stop, then click it a second time to get to the link-location. If I let it sit, the request times out on me.

I called tech support and talked with "Donald" (who had a mild Indian accent...) and he had me change the TCP/IP settings from automatic to the numbers he provided. That seemed to help for a bit, but when I rebooted it wasn't much better. He opened a ticket to check the line (he said there was some line problems).

When I noticed that it was still acting up, I called in again. 1st time, it said there was a line ticket open and hung upon me! (automated system), then I called back and got to talk with "Mary" (same accent...), she said that there was little they could do for me because the line ticket was open and we had to wait up to 24 hours for the line check to be resolved.

I'm thinking about going back to Cable, I've had lot's of problems with DSL. The only reason I switched was because DSl was half the price...

-Update- Seems like the problem has been fixed not. Both computer on my network are working the way tehy're supposed to (so far). I'm betting there was a server problem on YahooDSL's end.

I updated AVG and ran a test and didn't get any postitives, so I'm thinking it's not a virus. (Though my daughter just told me she got an AOL virus on the 2nd computer. She's got AOL IM on there. She's deleting it off now...)

I don't know what Cable internet access costs you but, for $40 a month I get 4mB and at $55 I get 9mB. That beats DSL on both price and speed where I live.
