What other uses can you get out of a 100-200 proofed bottle of whiskey in survial situtions besides for fuel and to disinfect wounds?

Mixed 1:1 with lemon juice and honey, it makes a cough suppressant and eases a sore/scratchy throat. {cough, cough, sputter) Excuse me.

I'm informed that a little applied to a tick (deer tick I think)will persuade the little blighter to let go taking its mouthparts with it. I must add I've always used tweezers and got some antibiotics when I get home just in case I get Lymme's Disease (potentially quite nasty).
But mostly I just drink it, whiskey and/or whisky.

Are you kidding me? Everclear (190 proof) is great stuff. You can do all of the things previously mentioned, dry out sweaty feet at the end of the day; dry out wet kindling and get a fire going on the quick; scare away bugs and even take the edge off of things if you mix it with soemthing. Good stuff. Not for the faint of heart, but something useful to take along ... not just for kicks.

Hey D7..tell you what. If we are lost and if you don't tell anyone neither will I, so go ahead and drink up. Chances are you will be sober by the time we "get found" anyway, and if not I'll tell them your behavior is due to dehydration, does anyone have a drink? :cool

Using it as a mouth wash to get rid of bacteria would work..just spit it out.

After taking a very sharp knife and dry shaving your beard, it would make a great after shave. Might sting a little, but boy would you smell good. And that would improve your attitude to keep on surviving.

It could be used to sanitize your knife blade after cleaning animals.

I would use it to rub down a freshly skinned snake or as a marinate to help tenderize meat. Should taste real good after cooking.

Mixing some 150 - 200 proof with pine pitch would thin it out a little if you needed to and yet retain the resin characteristics of the pitch, I think.

In a minor medical emergency at the survival level, alochol could serve as a temporary pain killer, but this could be tricky.

Some of my deer hunting buddies are not the best campers/survivors, but they sure can bag the game. Early on morning I saw one of them wipe his butt with some leaves after taking a dump. He then wiped off his hands with some rum and put some rum on a leaf and wiped off his butt again. To this day I wonder why he wiped his hands and then wiped off his butt again? Oh well, at least we did not have to smell him all day long.

I agree with all the suggestions listed before this post and hope some of these ideas help.

Don't waste it on disinfecting wounds.

If you look at wilderness medicine threads, or check with the experts, you'll find that alcohol has no place in wound cleaning.
Regardless of what you see in cowboy movies.
