Possible WW2 or earlier Katana?

I'm looking at purchasing a sword that (I think) might possibly be a ww2 or earlier Katana. The woman bought it from an estate sale and is asking $75 for it. Here are the pics that I have so far. I'm working on getting a better/closer one of the blade. Any thoughts you have or help in "ID'ing" the sword would be appreciated.

the hamon looks fake, and the tsuba looks artificialy aged. Oddly, every fitting looks like it's made of copper and "aged"

get a better pic of the tsuka and the habaki

that was what I noticed as well. I'm meeting her tomorrow, so I'll get some better pictures of everything

Definitely fake. Stay away from it like the plague. These pop up on the 'bay all the time from Chinese sellers. :thumbdn:

Fake hamon, artificially aged copper fittings in Tachi mounts. Even in my non-expert opinion it's not World War II and it isn't earlier.

Ask for photos of the nakago (tang) - if they say they can't remove the handle cry B.S.. It should be HEAVILY patinaed, to the point that the patina has some thickness. If the sword is a WWII sword, the nakago would likely have been shortened to fit a western saber-type handle, which is WAY shorter than the handle shown.

Thats not correct. They're many types of WW2 japanese swords, along with different types of blades. What you described is only 1

I don't think it's necessary or worth the trouble unless he just wants to mess with them. The sword obviously isn't old.
