Possibly a dumb question....

Hey guys/gals. I recently posted that I just ordered a Vallotton. My situation is that I am working in Kenya Africa for a year doing humanitarian aid as a medic. I have had my eye on a Vallotton for a long time but it just was not in my budget. The other day I was browsing and found one in my price range and I bought it. Here is my question, I wont be home until Sept and I had the knife shipped to my home. Consequently it will be sitting in the box in a safe location awaiting my return on the 12th of Sept. I normally would have waited until closer to my return date to order but this price I paid was very good and I do not forsee it happening again. So back to my question, sorry if I am rambling. Will the knife be ok as far as sitting in the box for a few months? I am speaking mainly of corrosion. This is the first S30v blade I have owned so I do not know how it holds up. Although I do not forsee anything happening I wanted your opinion. Thanks in advance! -Caleb

It'll be totally fine. Knives aren't that fragile. Wipe it down, coat it with some mineral oil if you wish then stow it!

Ok thanks! I plan on carrying it every day when I get home but until then it is packaged like how they come from the factory.

Unless the safe location is at the bottom of a vat of corrosive chemicals, the knife will be fine. S30V is pretty corrosion resistant, and if it is new in the box, it may be sealed in a plastic bag as well. Several of my Taichung knives have been.

Cool, thanks. I think I am just paranoid, this is a first for me

Yeah, it'll be fine. Classy knife! I was carrying mine recently.

Yeah, I am really happy I scored one; now the hard part is waiting until I get home to see it! BTW, I have heard great things about the fit and finish but how is the blade centering and lockup on these?

If it's NIB, besides being in a plastic bag, it should have a light coating of oil on the blade from the factory. It should be in the same condition when you arrive home as when it was shipped.

By the way, good on you for taking the time out of your life to do humanitarian work. A lot of folks will give a few dollars to those efforts, but you don't see many people willing to give up a year out of their life.

Thanks KrisOK, it has been a crazy year but a good one. I really cannot wait to get back to see this knife. I was not sure how they came directly from Spyderco, this is one of the few I have been able to afford brand new.

It will be just fine as everyone else has said. I think it's one of Spyderco's most uniquely elegant models. It also feels very substantial in the hand. It's just COOL. Definitely not sheeple-friendly, but that's part of the allure.

Here are some pics to keep you company while abroad:

Hey, thanks a lot! The pics are amazing. I have been on an expedition into Uganda so this is nice to come back to Kenya and see! Cannot wait to hold this beauty.
