Possibly Defective Mini Freek

Got my brand new Mini Freek from knifecenter. From all the reviews I watched and read, this knife is ready to go out of the box. Mine, not so much.

1. Blade has zero action without wrist flick even with the axis lockfully depressed. When I do flick it (thumb to open and wrist flick to close), it does the job 30-50% of the time. My Spyderco para 3 is 90% with the 10% being user error.

2. When closed, the blade has slight play. Curious if this is normal? I love the knife but fear I have a defective one.

Thoughts from other owners?

Have you tried tweaking the pivot just a little bit?
I would think that some slight play in the blade when closed is a non-issue... as long as it's "tight & right"; when ready for action.

Not yet. Since I got I Friday, I wanted to talk to KnifeCenter and Benchmade to understand my options before I started messing with it. Will talk to them today and mess with it a bit.

Good luck!
(I've also got a MIni-Freek, and they are a really nice knife!)

Sounds normal, axis lock as a detent is weaker vs ball, unless you see the tip when you GENTLY shake upside down you're fine. The action is normal, not all drop shut. Some time, oil, and use will even everything out.

To those who insist on flicking and slamming, try that with toilet seats , kitchen cabinets and refrigerator doors , please post results
