Spotted this one yesterday, from a "new knives" notification email received from Manfred Melzer, a dealer from Germany. http://www.arscultri.com/en/

Even though not forged ;), I sent an e-mail but was not quite quick enough. Possibly one of the finest handmades I have had the pleasure to lay eyes on.

Manfred describes it:
Here is a Steve Johnson Special. It is a rare Fighter with very fine polished Big Horn scales. This knife is marked # 001 and it is the first one of this pattern made of 1/4" stock ATS-34. The exquisite engravings and gold inlays on the wide stainless steel bolsters and the pins come from master engraver Julie Warenski.

You would have to move fast to snag that one. Like you said, Kevin.....not forged but WOW!:D

THAT is an elegant classic. The scales are really sublime. So is everything else...

Some high end stuff on the site. Unique photography style. Cool.

I like the knife a lot but I would have prefered a different scale material.

Interesting, as I realize many don't care for the "look" of ram horn, though it's probably one of the more durable and practical handle materials.

However at glance IMO this handle materail looks more like ivory (or ivory micarta) than ram horn.

Oh, it's ram horn? I misunderstood, took "Big Horn" for bovine (cow, zebu, white buffalo) horn. Now I know it's ram I'd go for it, one of the best natural materials (read durable).
It was the durability of (bovine) horn that put me off, the looks are great.

Steve Johnson makes knives that are perfect in every detail........

It is a pleasure to see such perfection from a shop without one CNC!!!!:D

BTW-Big Horn Sheep is NOT ram horn!!!!!!!

At one time, the state of Utah issued TWO hunting permits per year for Big Horn Sheep........that has changed and they are making a comeback.....but you cant get the stuff at Walmart!!!!!!

But since a male Big Horn Sheep is a "Ram", doesn't that make it Ram Horn? ;)

Tell you what, every time I see one of his knives, or Dietmar Kresslar's or Ricardo Velarde, I'm just awestricken.
Beautiful Ram's horn.
