Post Heat Treat Finish

What steels (if any in particular) generally are more prone to showing appealing post HT color? Or is it luck of the draw if your seeking the purple/bronze or purple/blue color or is there anything you can do to promote this happening?

I know with Damascus they use a liquified bluing salt with various temps depending on what color is trying to be attained. I dont see why you couldn't do this with normal stainless steel as well. It would just lack the patterns.
